Mobile Phone World Record Holders

Our Favourite Mobile Phone World Records

ATurton / 1 November, 2017

From the most snakes held in a person’s mouth to the heaviest car balanced on a head, it’s fair to say that some people are determined to break world records – even if it means risking their lives. But what drives people to push the boundaries and set a new world record?

A feeling of achievement for people who may not have found it in more conventional ways? A need to assert one’s individuality and stand out from the crowd? Or simply the pride and glory of being a world record holder?

Every year hundreds of world records are broken; it’s almost impossible to keep up. And, thanks to the internet, we can now upload our own attempts and have them viewed by people across the world. It is because of this that we have been able to find some of the most bizarre phone-related world records.

Here are our favourites.

  • Doug McManaman, a Canadian, balanced a mobile phone on his chin for a whopping two minutes and 29 secondswhile kneeling! Give it a go yourself and you’ll quickly realise how impressive this is.

  • Except for when flying, when do you ever turn your phone off? Well, at a party in Texas, 147 people decided to turn their mobile phones off at the same time – setting the record for the most amount of people to turn their phones off simultaneously.

  • We all know how frustrating it can be to have an inbox full of messages. But, no matter how bad your inbox situation is, we guarantee that Teody Jasper’s is worse. The Filipino racked up a whopping 2,417 messages in his inbox at once. I wonder how long it took to delete them all…

  • Most of us can send text messages pretty quickly, seeing as we spend so much time on our phones. But it was Ethan Hayes from Arkansas who beat us all – sending an astonishing 51 text messages to his friend in one minute. That’s just under one a second!

  • Prank calls can be highly entertaining. However, a prank call lasting 43 minutes doesn’t sound like something you want to be a part of. Jared and Kristin from New York accomplished this – keeping a marketing company on the phone for almost an hour.

  • Suresh Gaur from India bounced a tennis ball on his phone consecutively 4,122 times. Now that must’ve taken some serious concentration.

  • We all know how annoying it can be when you want to take a screenshot and accidentally lock your phone. Well that’s a problem that Kyra Li from California probably doesn’t have. The “screenshot master” took an impressive 38 screenshots on her phone in 15 seconds. Incredible!

So many people want to be famous – 54% of all British 16-year-olds according to one survey. Setting a world record is one way to go about it. And, while we’re not sure whether our favourite mobile phone record holders achieved the level of fame they desire, we’d like to say a big well done to all of them!
